United States – Look into your freezer for several brands of ice cream produced by Totally Cool Inc., which has been recalled because of concerns about Listeria.

A full list of brands and products that have been recalled can be viewed on the Food Standards Agency website; the brands include Friendly’s, Abylin’s Frozen, some Hershey’s ice cream, Yelloh!, Native, Half Baked, Jeni’s, Cumberland Farms, The Frozen Farmer, Marco, ChipWich, AMAFruits, Taharka, Dolcezza Gelato and Lasalle products, as reported by HealthDay.
All are from Totally Cool, Owings Mills Md, which has is recalling multiple brands of ice cream products due potential for Listeria monocytogenes contamination of the products; the organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, the company said on the website of the U. S. FDA .

The products were available for purchase throughout the United States at retail and through direct delivery.
As for the fact that no sicknesses have been identified yet, “Totally Cool Inc. has stopped the production and distribution of the influence products due to FDA sampling, which discovered the presence of Listeria monocytogenes,” the statement added.

The buyers of any of the recalled products should take the products back to the store where they purchased them for a refund. Listeria monocytogenes belongs to the 3rd most common food-borne pathogens in the United States.
Pregnant mothers are many folds more vulnerable to the Listeria bacteria than other women, and infection during pregnancy leads to fetal death in about 20% of pregnancies, and neonatal mortality in 3%.
The CDC mentions that other persons at higher risk include those who are 65 years and above or those with a compromised immune system. Every new patient requires hospitalization for treatment that does not relate to pregnancy, and approximately 16% of patients die, as reported by HealthDay.
It has been described to be associated with fever, muscle aches and fatigue according to CDC. Symptoms can occur anywhere from the same day up to 2 weeks after consuming the food containing Listeria but more often, signs of infection appear within one to two weeks.
